Subnet Masks Explained

What is a subnet mask?

A subnet mask is used to divide an IP (internet protocol) address into two separate parts. One part identifies the host (in this case, computer), the other part identifies the network where it belongs.

What is the purpose of a subnet mask?

1. Large and small organizations can use a subnet mask to divide large networks into smaller networks.

2. The goal of a subnet mask is splitting a larger network into small connected networks, helping to minimize traffic, and make sites run more efficiently.

3. Another advantage of subnet masks is having better network control and improving network security.
