Electronic Arts’ servers went dark last night causing many of their games to be unavailable. Last month, EA suffered a similar outage that struck FIFA 21 and EA servers. For over eight hours, users were getting kicked out of joined matches. This outraged players and even led to rapper, Snoop Dogg, issuing a warning to EA to get the servers back on within 30 minutes.
According to Downdetector, EA servers experienced an outage around 7:00 p.m. CST. Seventy-five percent of the outage reports were related to server connectivity issues. Twenty-four percent of users identified log-in problems. The number of reports peaked at 2,604 at about 8:00 p.m. CST.
Last night’s EA outage affected gameplay in heavy-hitting, multiplayer EA titles. Battlefield, Apex Legends, Star Wars Battlefront, and FIFA 21 were among those with server connectivity issues.
Apex Legends players indicated on Twitter that they were presented with an infinite loading screen. One user reached out to EA Help on Twitter about a server connection issue in the menus and matches sections of FIFA 21. He indicated that he had been experiencing this problem since Saturday and provided a related picture.
EA has issued the following statement about the outage via Twitter. They stated, “We are investigating reports of FIFA players experiencing issues connecting to EA servers at this time. We will provide an update when one is available. Thanks for your patience!” They followed up with a similar, updated tweet stating they were investigating reports of players experiencing problems connecting to “EA servers.”
After around three hours of connectivity difficulties, EA Help stated the issues have been resolved. They shared on Twitter, “Update: The issues affecting connectivity to EA servers have now been resolved. Thanks for your patience while we investigated this.” EA has not offered details surrounding the resolution or the cause of the outage, similar to last month’s status update.
Fortune lists the video game giant as third in the industry in the Media and Entertainment division. They have moved up a spot from fourth place since last year. EA has an impressive lineup of AAA franchises that have been released in their nearly 30 years of operations.
